total floor area : 3300 sqft
plot area : 18 cents
This 3300 sq.ft residence is located in a calm surrounding in Ramanattukara, Calicut district. The site is situated away from the hustle-bustle of the Calicut city and also well connected to the city.
Client wanted a home which will connect them back to their tradition while incorporating modern amenities. Hence this residence is a unique combination of both traditional and modern elements. Elements such as glass and flat roofs were introduced as a part of the design to break the idea of traditional concept alone.
Mr. and Mrs. Santhosh with their daughter spent their major part of their lives in Dehradun; always wanted to have their own residence in their hometown after the retirement. They approached us with a clear picture about their requirements. Since the residence acts as a retirement home, the crucial part was to create a long lasting serene environment in and around the house.
Another approach was that the design should respond to the tradition, yet modern and alive at the same time. Sloping roofs and overhangs which responds to the tropical climate is used in the design to resist the heavy monsoon showers. The entrance to the house (sit-out space) is kept detached and yet connected to the house through a pathway so that it maintains the privacy in the living room and to the rest of the residence.
The ground floor consist of sit-out space, living room, pooja room, master bedroom, guest bedroom, dining with family living, kitchen and utility area. The first floor has a two bedroom with 2 balconies. One of the balconies in the front acts as a relaxation space with a swing in it which helps to enjoy the cool breeze and take a nap. The other balcony acts as a connecting space to the terrace above the first floor.
The large windows in the dining and the double height space lits up almost the entire house. The rooms are also well lit with the help of large windows. Also these windows provides an unobstructed views towards nature.
